Course information
This course may be taken for academic credit—the academic course numbers are E401 (didactic) and E402 (practicum) rather than receive a contact hour record. Whether the course is taken for contact hours or academic credit the course requirements are the same. To receive the professional certificate of completion, you must obtain 80 percent passing out of a total of 370 possible points. For Academic students, a letter grade, based on a percentage of your total points, will be awarded according to Indiana University's grading policy. You can choose to take only the core didactic component or to take the entire course, which includes the didactic and clinical practicum.
The didactic component of the course is totally Web-based and is asynchronous. While you do not have to be online at a particular time, you must be available on a regular basis several times each week to participate in course discussions.
To complete the clinical practicum, it is required that a preceptor is available. (See the preceptor information section). To participate in the clinical practicum for contact hours, you must be a registered nurse and provide required documentation no later than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the desired session. The 112-clock hour clinical practicum is completed with a preceptor in a clinical facility. Participation in the clinical practicum is contingent upon the approval of the clinical site, preceptor, and receipt of required documentation.
Those who successfully complete the course will receive either a contact hour record or a grade on their transcript. Those successfully completing both the didactic and clinical practice for either contact hours or academic credit will also receive a professional certificate of completion.
