Teaching in Nursing Professional Certificate Program
Courses: Teaching in Nursing, Evaluation in Nursing, Computer Technology for Nurse Educators

Get started as an educator! In these courses you will develop a teaching portfolio and acquire a solid background in educational theories, teaching strategies, assessing learner needs, curriculum and learning experience planning, clinical teaching and evaluation strategies and tools using educational technologies, teaching and learning in Web-based courses, and assessing outcomes of educational programs.
Online interaction with classmates and course faculty is required. Each course requires a minimum of six to eight hours each week. You must successfully complete all three courses in order to receive a professional certificate in addition to a contact hour record. Each course may be taken independently for a contact hour record only.
Course 1: Teaching in Nursing
Learn about the principles of teaching, including educational theories, teaching strategies, and learning activities. You’ll assess the learning needs of a group of learners, write a teaching philosophy and course objectives, develop and implement a unit of instruction, learn how to use audiovisual resources, and evaluate your own teaching.
Course 2: Evaluation in Nursing
Get a full overview of evaluation strategies, identify your own evaluation philosophy, and use a model to develop an evaluation plan for a unit of instruction. You’ll assess learners’ clinical practice and attainment of learning outcomes, develop tests and other classroom assessment tools, and assign grades.
Course 3: Computer Technology
Become familiar with a variety of computer technologies that support the teaching-learning process. You’ll discuss principles of distance learning, use of the Internet in teaching and learning, and how to integrate computer technologies into the teaching-learning process.
