Personal Statement
It goes without saying that essays should observe the general rules of English. Please put your name and last 4 digits only of your student ID# on each page of the personal statement. Because faculty read the statements to understand you better and gauge your abilities and your situation, the personal statements are like interviews, so prepare them accordingly! Please do not use cover pages, plastic report covers, etc.
Personal statement should address the question: Why do you believe you should be considered for a scholarship, how would it help you, and how do you meet the specific criteria for the scholarships for which you are applying?
NOTE: statement should be 2 pages maximum
Transcript
You must include a transcript showing spring 2008 grades or the most recent semester attended. You can download this from OneStart.
If you are a transfer student, you must provide a transcript (two copies) from the previous institution where you were registered and attended.
Recommendation Forms
Most scholarships don’t require recommendations. If your scholarship requires a recommendation, forms/letters must be completed by a faculty member, academic counselor, or employer, someone who can attest to your character and academic performance. Recommenders cannot be family members. Letters should be on letterhead and sealed with the recommendation form, then sent to our office. Recommendation forms/letters may also be used for multiple scholarships, if required.
Note: Be sure to ask your references to address the criteria of the specific scholarships for which you are applying.
