Degree Options
Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing Option
How to Apply
Students who wish to be considered for admission to the School of Nursing must first be accepted to IUPUI as a second undergraduate degree-seeking student. This process will begin the credit transfer review of courses you have completed.
Admission Checklist
- Be admitted to IUPUI as a degree-seeking student prior to applying to the nursing program. Apply Now if you haven't yet done so.
- Provide an academic transcript showing a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) from your first completed bachelor's degree.
- Provide a copy of the program-planning sheet approved by an academic advisor, listing courses for admission with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Fulfill all program requirements with the grade of C (2.0) or higher by the second completed attempt; the grade of C- (1.7) is not acceptable; FX'ed grades will count as one attempt.
- Repeat no more than three courses or two science courses in order to earn a C or better. Applies only to specified courses within the 59-61 credit hours required for admission. No more than two science requirements may be repeated.
- Take independent study final exams or remove incompletes (I) by the semester or term prior to the beginning of the accelerated BSN option in order that these courses may be used in the admission calculation.
- Complete a Limited Criminal History check and deliver to NU 122, Center for Academic Affairs by application deadline date.
- Complete the online accelerated BSN option application by September 15 for the spring/January term, by January 15 for the summer/May term, and by March 16 for the fall/August term.
Please note: Coursework completed at other colleges or universities must be officially evaluated by the Office of Enrollment Services so that all transfer credits can be applied to your Indiana University transcript. Submitting inaccurate and false information or withholding information may result in denial of admission or dismissal if admitted.
Application Dates and Notification of Admission Status
Please note that applications received after these dates will not be considered.
Fall admission (August) applications will be available January 16.
- Applications are due March 16.
- Admission status will be determined in June.
Spring admission (January) applications will be available July 15.
- Applications are due September 15.
- Admission status will be determined in December.
Summer admission (May) applications will be available October 15.
- Applications are due January 15.
- Admission status will be determined in April.
You will be notified of your tentative status by mail using the mailing address on your application. Your notification letter will indicate one of the following:
- Provisional admission
- Not competitive for this admission cycle (for example, other applicants were admitted who had higher GPAs)
- Ineligible for this admission cycle (for example, incomplete required course work)
- Ineligible to continue pursuing admission to the accelerated BSN option (for example, failed to receive a grade of C or higher in a required course by the second attempt)
Applicants should have an alternative plan in place in case they are not admitted. Some students will continue taking general education requirements with the intention of applying again in the future. Others will change their major if not admitted.
Once you learn of your final admission status, follow "schedule adjustment" procedures to update your registration in accordance with your plans. Some applicants may wish to explore admission to the traditional BSN option.
Limits on Applications and Refusals
Although there is no limit on the number of times you can apply for admission to the Indiana University School of Nursing, there is a limit on the number of offers of admission that you can turn down. Students who refuse an offer of admission two times are ineligible for Bachelor of Science in Nursing admission on any Indiana University campus.
Independent Study Course Deadlines
Because it takes longer for independent study course grades to be posted to your official transcript, it is important that you take the final exam for an independent study course during the semester prior to applying. If you are not able to take the exam in time, your course grade may not be posted to your transcript, and will not be used in calculation. However, you must complete the course before entering the program.
Orientation
Orientation is required for all students admitted to the accelerated BSN option. You will be notified of a specific orientation date, time, and location in your official letter of admission.
The program is designed to provide an introduction to School of Nursing services, personnel, and curriculum, and offers an opportunity to meet faculty and mingle with your classmates. An optional CPR training class will also be provided for those students who need to obtain current CPR certification or update an expired card. Days and times for the class will be announced.
Please review the requirements for all students upon admission.
